The Cats of Butterwick Sands is a children's book following the various adventures of cats in a small run down seaside town called Butterwick Sands, a place that has seen better days; the hero being one special cat named Percy. He is a very clever and dignified cat and he is at the centre of all the adventures, stories and intrigues that the cats and other animals have. The other cats within the book are strays from across England and beyond - they come together to restore the funfair and caravan park, breathing life back into Butterwick and thus ensuring its survival
Came across this quirky book about the adventures of a group of cats living in and around a traditional good old-fashioned seaside town. It is very well written and is certainly an antidote to the violence of computer games and the like that young people seem drawn to these days. It is a gentle adventure, nostalgic, without too much sentimentality and one is drawn into the story by the characters, both human and cat and even seagulls and other animals. Gives a kindler, more gentle vibe of safer more innocent times. I loved it and l think children of all ages will grow to love it too. For a debut book it certainly stands out, for all the right reasons.

Butterwick Sands in England had an amusement park for several years where cats would go and eat leftovers from the customers. When the amusement park closed, the cats stayed finding food leftovers behind restaurants and stores if not finding prey to catch and eat. Percy the cat acts as a constable and judge for the cats living in the former amusement park and town. The cats have created a community that is quite harmonious. The cats all have interesting lives. There is a family that lives in a trailer complete with a dog. They live next to a trailer that has an elderly woman who lives in it. I love the cats interactions with each other and people besides their individual adventures.
The author has written an excellent story that is original and quirky. It was fun for me to read it. The book is illustrated with black and white drawings. Do read and enjoy the book !

Gabriella Thomas lives in Brixton in South London. She works full-time as a Clinical Nurse Specialist working with children and families; she has worked in Nursing, mainly in the NHS for over 25 years.
She was born in Reading in Berkshire, though of Italian origin and is married with 2 older children and has 2 young grandchildren, Mariella and Elliot.
I lived and worked in Aberystwyth in mid-Wales for 4 years between 2010 and 2014, to be near my daughter Sonia and my wonderful grandchildren Mariella and Elliot. In reflection, the sea and the mountains were inspirations at this time and coupled with my grandchildren were more than enough to start me on the path to writing THE CATS OF BUTTERWICK SANDS
