No Country For Old Men follows widower Steven Darlington as he tries to build a new life in Cleadonbridge after his retirement. But his carefully laid plans take an unexpected turn, throwing him in a state of uncertainty.
Steven Darlington widowed and with his sons in the Antipodes is feeling rather stuck in a rut in his West Country town. He trawls the internet and by chance finds Anna, an actor whom he had known fifty years earlier in Cleadonbridge where he was a student.
A reunion of the fiftieth anniversary of his group’s graduation is planned in over a years’ time, but Steven decides to visit the city earlier and meet with Anna. They embark on a relationship and Steven envisions settling in Cleadonbridge, with the hopes of reinvigorating the Anglo-Catholic church he attended and building a new life with Anna. However, his carefully laid plans take an unexpected turn, throwing him in a state of uncertainty.
No Country For Old Men explores the agony of old age and pays homage to Yeats’ Sailing to Byzantium.
