Wendy Joy and Jane Reynolds

Wendy and Jane are paediatric physiotherapists who fill their work with fun and laughter. They use stories as a way to deliver physiotherapy programmes to improve children's motor skills. Publishing these story books is a way to get the established Storycises programme for schools into a format that can be enjoyed by parent, caregivers, child and siblings. Wendy has been a chartered physiotherapist since 1991. She divides her time between clinical work as a specialist childrens physio, Storycises, lecturing around the UK and managing her private paediatric practice. Wendy lives in Dorset with her husband and loves to walk, draw, play the piano and visit local beaches. Jane has been a chartered physiotherapist since 2003, having been a paramedic with the London Ambulance Service with a parallel career in the Royal Naval Reserve. She works clinically with children of all ages, lectures around the country and spends time promoting sport and inclusion for young people with disability.

We have been really busy promoting 'Colours' over the past few weeks. We are working collaboratively with libraries and were therefore thrilled to join in with Libraries Week (4th-10th October). We sent Colours to local libraries in the Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset area so that they can add to their celebrations and activities by encouraging visiting children to have fun with movement! Here is some of the feedback: 'I was able to use your book at our story times twice during the week. I always love to use the Storycises booklet to warm up children and improve their attention, so I was really happy to receive a copy of “Colours” too. The illustrations in the book really helped the children to imitate the actions and got their imaginations going, they really have enjoyed the moves and as a result I feel participation level was higher than usual. It has nicely set the scene for the rest of the story time' 'Thank you for sending us a copy of your book ‘Colours’. At Highcliffe Library I run Toddler Time sessions which included stories with actions. Due to Covid, I have currently stopped doing the actions with the stories. I am, however, looking forward to using your book when I begin running the sessions with actions again.' 'We have only just reinstated our Toddler Time sessions so have not used the book yet but have kept it aside to use at a future session. It looks a fun book which I am sure our toddlers will love as they enjoy action books. After we have used it we plan to add it to our library stock so that many other children can enjoy it.' 'I put your book on a display shelf with other new books in the children’s zone and it was borrowed within a few hours.' We also had our first radio interview. The lovely Lou Hannan on Drive Time BBC Radio Solent interviewed us about our roles as physiotherapists, what we have been seeing and how Colours aims to help those children with practice of vital movement skills. **NEWS JUST IN** We have just signed off our second book ready for print! ' Farm Adventure' is a story for older children with more practice of motor skills with Farmer Brown!
