Laura J Cahill

As a health and safety manager of over twenty years' standing, Laura's career to date has spanned the utilities, oil & gas, and rail sectors, a track record which has allowed her to observe first-hand a diverse range of operational locations and activities. This breadth of experience has given Laura an appreciation of the varied, and sometimes unique, circumstances organisations can encounter, as well as informing her view that many of the challenges they face are universal.

With a clear goal of keeping people and workplaces safe, Laura assists organisations by providing them with the tools they need to get the right messages to the right people at the right time, as well as providing practical no-nonsense advice. Her approach is built upon a combination of rich insights gained from talking to sharp-end workers - who variously lay utility pipes, keep substances contained, and move trains around the rail network - together with others gleaned from conversations with managers and senior leaders who head up organisations. Laura draws upon these insights to design and deliver workplace systems, procedures and risk initiatives which enable organisations, and those who work for them, to do safety brilliantly.

Laura is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (IEHF), and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). It was her desire to take a different perspective from that adopted by some of the more conventional health and safety texts, coupled with a long-held love of the English language, which provided the impetus for Safety Fables for Today, Laura's first book.
