After three months in hospital in early 2015 and the removal of an infected hip joint, I was discharged in a wheelchair unable to walk. During that time I was given a soft toy pretending to be horse but looking more like a cow. It was quickly christened a Horse-cow. As I began to get better and bored my sister suggested I wrote stories about the Horse-cow and one thing led to another. The wheelchair aspect became important too.
My inspiration came from the help and encouragement from my family and friends and learning how much I could do from the wheelchair and that even though a life challenge they could be fun too
Maggi King lives near Cambridge with her farmer husband. She has enjoyed the company and stimulation of all children all her life. Living on a farm developed her love of animals, particularly horses, which have been an enormous part of her life for over 40 years. Severe arthritis means she now faces wheelchair challenges. She also plays the trumpet, very badly.
