Poetry came late to Hugo Steere. It was only in 2010 when approaching sixty that the inspiration to write his first took hold.
Captivated by the beauty of a young actress, poems such as ‘a tes beaux yeux’ became the basis of the book ‘Better Not‘ that was published in 2012.
Living in Devon provided a perfect tranquil enviroment for writing poetry. Over the preceding years sixty or so poems appeared, mainly inspired by individuals that the author had met in Devon and London.
Since moving to Corfu in 2017, Hugo has finally finished a second collection of poems which were started in 2012 and appears in chronological order over the subsequent years.
The poems follow a familiar pattern of lives and events that have captured Hugo’s imagination in Devon and Corfu, finishing with some Greek text, a language that Hugo has become increasingly interested in.
