Arkhon : An epic tale from the dawn of democracy is a fast-paced thriller that follows the fate of a former mercenary who becomes entangled in the overthrow of tyranny and the emergence of democracy in ancient Athens. An exciting tale of adventure set in the ancient world, the novel reflects recent political upheavals around the world.
Exploring present-day issues that include political legitimacy, foreign intervention, revenge, superstition and the manipulation of religion, the drama draws directly from the tensions and discourse that developed around the Arab uprisings of 2011-2013. As Lowry explores the modern parallels between the ancient and current world, this exciting tale, grounded by reality, comes to life. Stories from Herodotus are woven together with the insights of Homer and Aesop, and their ideas, relevant throughout history, resonate today through Arkhon. This novel will be enjoyed by those who relish epic historical adventures and will also appeal to individuals with an interest in current affairs.
