Is Your Mind Fertility-Friendly?

Don’t let your emotions hijack your fertility.

Fertility problems are one of the fastest growing areas of medicine, with failure to conceive causing immense pain and suffering for those looking to get pregnant. Due to increased media hype, many women are entering their thirties terrified that they will struggle to get pregnant. For many women, anxiety about fertility and their ticking body clock starts long before they get pregnant. Is Your Mind Fertility-Friendly? aims to help busy women become aware of the impact stress and negative emotions can have on the body, including the detrimental effects they can have on your fertility. Fertility expert Jackie Brown provides women with the essential information they need to overcome their stress and create the perfect environment to increase fertility. Although many women do not feel particularly stressed, emotions such as worry, anxiety, fear and anger can still evoke the stress response that can interfere with fertility. This book will educate and offer self-help techniques to enable women to take back control of their fertility. Inspired by books such as The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and Conquering Infertility by Dr. Alice Domar, this book is an essential read for those looking to understand fertility.

This is a must read for anyone embarking on their fertility journey! Its written in a caring and supportive way full of useful information and such helpful tips! My fertility jouney has seemed never ending with failed ivfs and an early miscarriage. After my miscarriage I felt like giving up on my dream of becoming a mum but now every time I go back and read this book, I feel positive again and it puts everything into perspective! I now feel more in tune with my emotions and know I wont give up. One thing springs to my mind from reading Jackies book is that you shouldnt worry about failure but worry about the chances you miss when you dont even try (quoted by Jack Cainfield). Im trying to think about the 'now' and visualise being a mum, something the book advocates!

I reviewed this book for the readers of my fertility magazine. It's a very much needed book for anyone going through fertility issues. What I like about this book is that it explains the connection between the mind, i.e. the brain, conscious & subconscious and emotions; and fertility, in an easy, chatty way. In fact, reading the book felt like I was having a conversation with Jackie over a cup of tea!
Jackie has done a lot of research and this is clearly explained in laymen’s terms.
There are lots of useful, evidence based nuggets of information, such as “Psychological and emotional factors, not age, have more influence on a woman’s chance of conceiving” and “Meditation could actually increase the levels of the hormone DHEA and therefore improve egg quality”.
I think the readers will appreciate all the case studies that accompany the chapters.
Stress and depression is covered in depth and the way it is linked to fertility is very surprising but makes sense.
I’m sure as you read the book you’ll find yourself nodding and agreeing with what Jackie says. I did as I reflected back on my journey!
It’s the sort of book you can dip into as and when you feel you need it, to remind you of the benefits of visualisation, mindfulness and meditation.
It’s very true when Jackie says: 'Don't let your emotions hijack your fertility' - this so easily happens without realising it.
