Unravelling is a sensitive exploration of the power of love and sex to generate both passion and heartbreak; to cause delight and despair; to drive us to betrayal and lead us to redemption. Celebrating the complexity and contradictions of love and sexual attraction, Unravelling is a passionate love story that engages both the heart and the mind.
The novel tells the story of Vanessa and Gerald, who fall in love in the sixties when she is an art student and he a sculptor, a charismatic and talented figure in the young Vanessa’s eyes. Their relationship is passionate, thrilling, sexy. They marry, have children, divorce, have other lovers, and then meet again with tragic consequences. Vanessa is haunted by grief and remorse, but she never stops loving Gerald. When they are finally reunited and find the chemistry between them is as strong as ever, they have to come to terms with their past and accept the power of their enduring love.
Lindsay Stanberry-Flynn was born in London and after studying in Liverpool, became a lecturer in English. She taught in further and higher education for a number of years, based mainly at Evesham and Malvern Hills College in Worcestershire. Teaching English meant she was able to share her love of reading, literature and drama – and get paid for it!
However, writing is Lindsay’s first love – she wrote her first short stories as a child – and in 2005, she left full-time teaching to do an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. Since then, her stories have been shortlisted in major competitions, such as the Fish International Short Story Prize and the Asham Award for Women Writers, while Cinnamon Press published The Magic of Stories in September 2009. She has been also been working on two novels Unravelling (available soon from Matador) and The Piano Player’s Son.
Lindsay lives in Worcestershire, where she runs creative writing courses and workshops in a delightful setting on the banks of the River Avon.
