For those without a legal or relevant football background this paperback book running to 84 pages will be a great introduction to its subject. It provides a really comprehensive list of the necessary registration requirements for both FIFA and five of the most relevant European FA’s plus the USA in order to become a licensed agent with those bodies.
The chapter on the “work of a football agent” is extremely revealing and indicates how much work an agent is required to carry out for their clients, whether they be players, clubs or more frequently now managers.
The summaries to each chapter are particularly helpful as are the illustrations of individual transfers in various countries especially those in the chapter on the transfer windows, covering as it does the players who are to move that are contracted and those who are free agents. These go along with the deals that are to be made including permanent moves, loans and options to buy. Those illustrations illuminate the negotiating skills necessary to clinch the deals once the appropriate choice has been made.
Arguably the most pivotal chapter in the book relates to the subject of contracts in the various categories, including those between the agent and the player; the player with the club; the agent with the club and those with third parties, all being of both a commercial and private basis. These include such matters as wages, sponsorship fees, image rights and transfer fees with the commissions to be applied.
Although the difficulty is shown, of starting up, the need for networking and the ability to work hard and negotiate well, the benefits of the job are shown to out- way all of these.
Therefore if it is feasible for book to create a person’s future for them then this small volume could possibly do just that.
