| Join us at the London Book Fair... |
The UK's largest trade publishing exhibition takes place again this year at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre from 14--16 April. The London Book Fair is one of Europe's key publishing events, attended by publishers, booksellers, librarians, authors and anyone involved in the production, distribution and sales of books.
Troubador will be exhibiting again at the Book Fair, on stand U605 in Earls Court 2, following a very successful exhibition in 2007. Primarily a trade-to-trade event, the Book Fair provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing trade contacts, research the market and forge new relationships with customers and suppliers alike.
The 2008 Fair is already shaping up to be our busiest ever. This year four staff members will be attending the Fair, with diaries already filling up rapidly. Anyone wishing to meet us at the Fair is advised to contact us sooner rather than later to book an appointment. |

| Writers' "Bible" recommends Matador... |
The writers' "Bible", otherwise known as the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook, has for the first time advised readers on what it considers to be reputable companies offering self publishing services. The 2008 edition lists just four companies that offer self publishing services, including Matador, the self publishing imprint from Troubador.
Managing Director Jeremy Thompson said: "This was quite an unexpected honour as we weren't aware that the Yearbook was going to make such a recommendation." |

| New Book Reviews Section |
Each issue of The Self Publishing Magazine publishes over 30 independent reviews of self published titles from many self publishers and self publishing companies, and now many of these reviews are also to appear on a new Online Reviews section of the magazine's web site. Over the coming months, more and more reviews will be added to the Book Reviews pages, building up an online, searchable database of reviews for the first time.
The Online Book Review pages will also carry reviews of self published books that don't make it into the published edition of the magazine owing to space constraints.
Any self published title published in the recent past, or about to be published, may be submitted to the magazine's Editor, Jane Rowland, for review. All reviews are carried out by independent reviewers, and their reviews are published unedited first in the magazine and later online.
For self publishing authors, the reviews section also allows a web address to be given where potential readers can find out more about a particular book. The Online Book Reviews section is also searchable, by book title, author, publisher and by genre.
In addition to independent book reviews, The Self Publishing Magazine carries advice on all aspects of self publishing, the do's and dont's, advice from those who have already self published, technical know-how, and case studies.
For details on how to submit your book for review, see the magazine's home page at www.troubador.co.uk/theselfpublishingmagazine |

| Emerald acquires Troubador journals |
Emerald Publishing Group Ltd, one of the UK's leading academic journals publishers, has acquired Troubador's academic research journals list. In a deal finalised in mid April, ownership of four Troubador journals passes to Emerald, with effect immediately.
The Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in Society, Journal of Interactive Technology and Smart Education, International Journal of Pervasive Computing and International Journal of Web Information Systems have all been sold to Emerald. The journals will all continue to publish to their established schedules under the Emerald masthead.
Troubador Publisher Jeremy Thompson said: "This is a fantastic move for our journals, as they will now benefit from the far greater market presence of one of the UK's leading journals publishers. The academic journals market has shifted greatly in recent years, so much so that it had become evident to us that small publishers stood little chance in a market where libraries subscribe to hundreds of journals in packages from large publishers. So that our journal titles could move forward it was evident that a major publisher would be needed to give the titles the momentum they needed. We are delighted that Emerald has seen the potential that all our jounal titles had, and has taken them all on."
The journals' respective editors will all continue in post for the forseeable future.
In a separate development, Ethical Space will continue to be published the Institute of Communication Ethics from volume three onwards. Troubador will continue to publish the Communications Ethics books series.
"While we shall continue to undertake work on academic journals for a number of publishers, our main focus as an independent publisher will now be on expanding our academic books lists, and our services to authors" said Director of Academic Publishing Jane Rowland. |

| Troubador Appoints Vine House Distribution |
Troubador has apppointed Vine House Distribution to handle order fulfilment and distribution on all book imprints.
Titles were previously distributed to the books trade direct by Troubador, with a few selected titles placed with distributor Gazelle. The volume of sales has been increasing, necessitating a move to outsource fuilfilment and distribution, hence the appointment of Vine House.
Managing Director Jeremy Thompson said: "The volume of sales that our books are now achieving through traditional book retailers has increased so much that we simply had to look at outsourcing the entire fulfilment and distribution functions of our business. With the appointment of Vine House to handle this side of the business, we are now free to concentrate on the core publishing, and on widening our services to authors."
Books will be available direct from stock, making the fulfilment and distribution functions of the publishing process more efficient, with books being more readily available.
Troubador will continue to distribute books that are produced in smaller quantities (usually those published using print on demand), and to service orders from its own online web shop. |
