Matador authors reach the final of The Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2016

We’re delighted to announce that José Patterson, Andrew Guile and Tim Bradley have made the final of The Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2016. The Wishing Shelf Awards are aimed specifically at self-published authors. Each book entered in the prize is read and judged by children in primary and secondary schools, and is marked according to editing, theme style, cover and illustrations.

Described by The School Librarian as ‘greatly enriched’ and ‘enhanced by Patricia Drew’s beautiful illustrations’, My Aunt Manya is the latest heartwarming book from José Patterson, which recalls Sarah’s journey to America to live with her Aunt Manya.

With over 150 black and white illustrations throughout, Andrew Guile’s The Mad Moon Mission, hailed as one of Mr Ripley’s Enchanted Books' ‘favourite reads so far this year’ has also made the final. And Patterson and Guile are joined in the final by Tim Bradley, whose Arnie Jenks and the House of Strangers was described as an ‘excellent, exciting story’ by the Historical Novel Society.

Speaking about reaching the final, José said: “This is a very worthy organisation because the authors eventually receive feedback from the children who have read your book – very valuable indeed.” The winners will be announced on 1st April 2017 and we wish the Matador finalists the best of luck
