Headline deal for Matador fiction...

In December 2011, Barbara Mutch self-published her novel Karoo Plainsong. Set against a backdrop of apartheid, it tells the story of Ada, an illegitimate, unschooled but brilliant pianist who grows up in service to a family of Irish immigrants.

Barbara, who has appeared at various signings and events around the country, sold out of her initial print run and had to reprint quickly. Barbara is thrilled with the mainstream publishing deal with Headline.

Help in designing that arresting cover and creating a professional paperback plus eBook were instrumental in catching the eye of a prominent agent and then a leading publisher. I am really very grateful for all your help."

Hodder have already sold the US, Italian and Dutch rights to the book.
