Partnership Publishing

Partnership publishing is a method of publishing whereby the Author and Publisher share the financial risks involved in publishing a book. This method is largely applicable to books which have an easily accessible market -- specialist books, local interest books, local history books, and so on. We do not undertake Partnership Publishing for fiction or poetry.

It is a method of publishing that is only suitable for books that are well written and stand a good chance of commercial success.

Under Partnership Publishing, you as Author have to convince us as Publisher that your book has a good chance at selling more than enough copies to cover the costs of publishing it. If we agree with your assessment, we will enter into a Partnership Publishing Agreement, under which we agree to cover up to half the costs of publishing your book. We won't tell you your book is good just so you decide to place it with us. We also take a risk in Partnership Publishing, so we need to be sure that both that the content is of a high quality and that there is a market for a work.

Prior to publication, we provide a full summary of the costs involved in partnership publishing a book, and then based on the risks to us as Publisher, we will say how much of those costs we are prepared to cover and how much you as Author will have to contribute.

On publication, we will sell the book through the usual outlets, and in co-operation with you as Author. Shortly after publication, we issue a costings sheet which shows the actual costs of publication, and how many sales have to be achieved to recoup the publication costs. The costs of publishing are recouped from sales revenues, which are split between you as Author and us as Publisher in the same proportions as the initial costings funding split. Under this publishing method, Authors get their books published for a lesser financial investment.

The emphasis here is on a Partnership; both parties have to be happy with every stage of the publication process, so we work very closely with our Partnership authors to ensure complete satisfaction. Partnership Publishing is a mutually beneficial arrangement.
