Our Latest Book.....

Billingsley, Brampton and Beyond, in search of The Weston Connection

The Matador imprint was established in 1999 in response to the increasing number of authors wishing to publish their own books. Part of Troubador Publishing Ltd, Matador offers authors a wide range of services aimed at publishing, marketing and distributing books to a high standard.

There are lots of companies out there who will offer to “Publish your book and make it available worldwide”, but producing a book and giving it an ISBN number (all that is needed to theoretically make it available worldwide) is relatively easy. Few will actually be choosy about what they publish, concentrate hard on proper design and production, and then actually get out there and sell your book.

Matador has deliberately established itself at the quality end of the self publishing market… quality of content, design, production and distribution. Most authors who publish with Matador are serious about their self publishing, wanting either a high quality book or a real chance at getting their work widely distributed and read.

For authors whose work we are happy to publish, we undertake as much or as little of the publishing process as required. From design, typesetting and printing through to marketing and distribution (direct and through our sales reps, Star Books, and distributors, Orca Book Services); our aim is to publish a book that you are proud of... and then to get it sold!

Matador is part of Troubador Publishing Ltd, which has its own commercial publishing programme with respected book lists in several areas. We also undertake publishing work for other publishers like Cambridge University Press, Elsevier and many others (see our client list for information). Troubador is also a member of the Independent Publishers Guild. All of our self-publishing authors thus have the guarantee that their book is in the hands of a professional publishing house. We know how important your manuscript is to you and we won't let you down because we respect your work.

Matador has now been recommended in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook – the ‘Bible’ of authors – by anti-vanity publishing campaigner Johnathon Clifford. We are also the chosen self publishing partner of Lovewriting.co.uk, and are recommended by numerous writers' organisations to those seeking self-publishing.

Details of the publishing process are available by following the links above, and we do suggest that you familiarise yourself with the processes involved before contacting us to discuss publication of your work.

Matador is a friendly, approachable service where advice is readily available and freely given. We are happy to talk to you about your work, whatever stage your manuscript is at, with no obligation (or hard sell!) at all.
