The Love Detective
by Angela Dyson

Clarry is 26 years old, single, bright, funny, attractive and enjoying a makeshift existence as a part time waitress. She has a request from Laura, a solicitor and her best friend, to check out whether her new boyfriend Simon, an estate agent, is really interested in her or only in the business she can put his way.

This sets Clarry, somewhat shakily, on the path to becoming an amateur sleuth. Laura has given Simon the probate sale of a house in Wimbledon village to sell and, with the aid of Flan, a glamorous septuagenarian and Flan’s lover, Clarry discovers, through a series of comic misadventures that include posing as the front woman for a Property Consortium and breaking into Simon’s house, that not only has he come to a private arrangement with a property developer for which he will receive a considerable bribe, but he is also a two-timing creep.

Then, just when Clarry thinks her investigations are over, matters take a sinister turn. With the assistance of Flan and some colourful characters from the restaurant, the story follows her adventures as she uncovers a shocking trail of clues leading to the discovery of a truly evil criminal enterprise. Along the way she is mistaken for a pole dancer (and not in the flattering sense), attacked in her own home, taken prisoner and discovers a dead body. I think I might just stick to waitressing she decides, but when does life ever work out the way we plan it? The story comes to a close but the Love Detective has been established.

The Love Detective is first in a series.
