Passione Celeste
Riding a Bianchi Around East Anglia and Beyond
by Mark Pritchard

On his third birthday Mark was given a tricycle. Thus began a lifelong journey pedalling everywhere he could. When he was nine Mark saw a Bianchi bicycle for the first time and owning one became his goal. In his teens Mark discovered the joys of long-distance cycling and the freedom a Bianchi could provide. Nowadays he rides 10-15,000 miles each year with his Bianchi family.

Passione Celeste is the story of Mark’s recent rides, including a 1,000 mile tour from Land’s End to John O’Groats as well as tours in Italy and the Pyrenees. In 2016 to celebrate his 60th birthday Mark rode 60 centuries (100 mile rides) across East Anglia and in other part of Britain where he has previously lived and worked.

Passione Celeste is about his cycling adventures. It also about the places he visited, some of the stories he discovered there and some of the people he met along the way.

At the heart of Mark’s story is his love affair with his family of Bianchi bikes. Founded by Edoardo Bianchi in 1885, Bianchi is the oldest company in the world still producing bikes. Their distinctive celeste (pronounced chel es tay) coloured frames are loved and lusted over by cyclists around the globe.

Passione Celeste takes a look at the history and growth of Bianchi and explains why the bikes have acquired a unique place in cycling around the world. Mark’s story gets to the very heart of Bianchi’s DNA giving it a new and unique perspective. That is the Passione Celeste of this engaging and entertaining love story.
