A Moment Lost
by Elizabeth Butler

Eva Sinclair was a successful district judge at the top of her profession. Everything changes when, after a night out with David a councillor friend; she wakes on a park bench with no memory of how she got there.

She is later informed by the police that David had been involved in an accident and had died on the way to the hospital. A post mortem however discovers that he had been given a lethal drug and was already dead when the car hit him. The police tell Eva that she too had been given the same drug but in a much smaller dose.

But was she the intended victim?

Her life spirals out of control when a photograph showing her lying prone on the park bench, her clothes in disarray, is sent to her at the court house. She informs Detective Inspector Peter Marsh, who is investigating David's death. He wonders if it is a blackmail threat and connected with the death of the councillor.

He also starts to questions the fact that the councillor had been due to head a committee deciding which planning application should be rubber stamped, the wealthy Russian investors or Eva's lover who works for a well known charity. They are both after the same piece of land.

Deceit, greed, and lies all add to Eva's nightmare as she struggles to come to terms with her friend's death.
