Peacetime
Selected Poems
by James Vollmar

Peacetime: Selected Poems offers a long-overdue opportunity to enjoy the work of a distinctive voice from the poetry renaissance of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

James Vollmar’s poetry has been published widely in literary magazines, anthologies and booklets in the UK and the USA and appears here in collected format for the first time.

Although now best known as a playwright and screenwriter, James Vollmar’s first love was always poetry. This new collection gathers some of the best of his published work, alongside previously unpublished pieces and more recent poems such as the Norfolk-inspired sequence ‘Shoreline’.

Drawing inspiration from travels in the USA, Italy and the Scottish islands, as well as the cities and landscapes of the poet’s home country, Peacetime: Selected Poems offers an opportunity to enjoy the work of a genuine ‘survivor’ of the 1970s poetry boom, and will appeal to all interested in the culture of that period.

Meanwhile reader responses have been much appreciated:-

'Not only a hugely engaging book but also an important one. I loved its spirit of restless enquiry, its sharply drawn vignettes of place and time and those coruscating tirades against the empty trashiness of much which prevails. Those latter seemed to me to have the near-biblical cadences of a zealous old testament prophet or D.H Lawrence astride one of his favourite hobby-horses..'

Paul Ward Poet, playwright, director: Arundel Festival & Christ's Hospital School

'I thoroughly enjoyed 'Juke Box Karma' with its wide-ranging remit both autobiographical and philosophical. Provides much to discuss'

David Braine Musician/composer

'An absolute joy... the writing is hugely enjoyable and evocative'

Michael G.Davies Writer/critic/composer

On June 11th 2017 from 3.30 to 4.30 James will be appearing at the Earls Barton Literary Festival in Northamptonshire.
