Simon's Fel
by P.R. Page

For two years she had been locked in a prison of unhappiness, then guilt and remorse, but now she was free of all that.

Two years after the death of her abusive husband, Lissy wakes up one morning, finally realising that her life can be her own once again. The guilt and recriminations of the last two years have finally faded away. The memories of cruel mental bullying and brutal physical treatment from her late husband and the constant haranguing from her mother have become insignificant. She decides to sell her London townhouse and buy her dream home in Devon.

She knew with absolute certainty that she had to get out of London and head west to start her new life.

Lissy unearths the magazine in which she had first seen the advert of the cottage for sale; this is where she should be; this is where she will live her new life. She cannot envisage, at this point, that anything could stop her. She arrives in Devon, having discovered the cottage was still for sale, although derelict. She excitedly explores it, imagining how it will look once renovated. But Lissy has no inclination of the heartache that will result from the white shadow that fleetingly passes across the kitchen window. It is a moment that will irrevocably change her life...

Simon’s Fel is a gripping work of adult fiction that will appeal mainly to female readers.

"Simon's Fel is the first book I have written. I had immense pleasure from writing it, a love story set in a small Devon village. The story has sorrow, despair, love and laughter and reflects life in all aspects. I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it."

Sometimes we need a book which can be described as having, “A light scampering style.” This was written to perfection. A universal theme, a deeply emotional story, the characters are sympathetic and well drawn. The reader is drawn into Felicity’s life and we care about her from that moment on. ‘Simon’s Fel’ will carry you spellbound until the gripping end. It’s a quick easy read to be devoured! I award this book 4 stars.

An intriguing novel that will keep you turning the pages. If you're looking for a dose of human kindness, you'll find it in this story.

An adequate book. I read this on a flight from Pittsburgh to Miami, so it is a short book. The online synopsis drew me in as it indicated the plot contained a mystery. However, once I was a quarter of the way into the book, I found that I was able to predict what would happen. I did find that I was looking for more dialogue between the characters and atmosphere-building. The book felt more like an essay than a novel. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable easy read.

Nothing like a post-traumatic, get-your-life-together novel, that also features a charming derelict cottage in Devon! Felicity’s abusive husband is dead (she didn’t kill him, more’s the pity) and she does the thing where she shakes off all the trappings of her previous life and heads out into the unknown. Luckily, Lissy is independently wealthy, and her purchase of said charming derelict cottage goes off without a hitch — except insofar as she is challenged by Simon, whose antagonistic behaviour soon turns into something else entirely. You won’t find many narrative shocks along the way, and it takes some getting into, but otherwise, thoroughly enjoyable — and provided even more charming derelict cottage fantasy fuel!
